Seufert advises on joint venture between the Heidelberg and Marburg university hospitals to operate the innovative Marburg ion radiation therapy facility (MIT)

M&A team from Seufert Rechtsanwälte advised on the joint venture between the Heidelberg and Marburg university hospitals to operate the innovative Marburg ion radiation therapy facility(MIT) in cooperation between Ruprecht-Karls University Heidelberg, Philips University Marburg, the State of Hesse and Siemens AG.
Treatment and research with the innovative particle therapy facility to treat cancer patients, whose tumours cannot be treated by other methods, is now due to commence.
The facility was established at Marburg university hospital in 2012 at a cost of more than €100 million in compliance with investment obligations undertaken in the course of the privatisation of both hospitals. Initially, the facility could not be taken into operation and was repurchased by Siemens AG.
Apart from the operation and research cooperation agreements, the re-acquisition of the facility from Siemens AG for the MIT and an agreement with the State of Hesse on the satisfaction of the investment obligations were also part of the overall package on which Seufert advised.
