The Future of Municipal Hospitals III – Local authority decision-makers discussed with Prof. Lauterbach and Prof. Mansky the effects of the Hospital Structure Act (KHSG) and intensified quality competition

"Competition on quality accelerates." As in previous expert meetings on the future of municipal hospitals organised by Seufert Rechtsanwälte, Prof. Dr. Dr. sc. (Harvard) Karl W. Lauterbach lectured mainly to local councillors, other local authority decision-makers and hospital chief administrators on current legislative projects and the effects of the Hospital Structure Act (KHSG).

The health expert and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary party specified in his "Report from Berlin" the planned measures by which the Hospital Structure Act is intended to achieve its declared objective and posed some critical questions. There was agreement that the KHSG will intensify the competition on quality not least between municipal hospitals. Possible quality indicators, which already apply abroad, were introduced into the discussion by Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Mansky.

Prof. Mansky is the head of Structure Development and Quality Management in the Health System at the TU Berlin. From 2000 to 2010, he was responsible for medical development at the HELIOS hospitals. From 1996 to 2000 he was consultant to 3M Health Information Systems and participated in the fundamental preparations for the introduction of the DRG System in Germany.
